Recycle this hotel room

Can a hotel room be reused or recycled? I never thought it possible but the architects at L-A-V-A took it upon themselves to create The Future Hotel a clever luxury hotel for the weary globetrotter to relax and rejuvenate at their own pace.

Imagine being in your own little cocoon, with mood lighting of your choice and a spa bathroom where you can enjoy total relaxation and privacy. The room comes with all the standard amenities like wi-fi etc, but in a room like this it's begging you to just do nothing. To read more about this hotel, visit the last resort issue, you'll love finding out more on technology and sustainable design.

It's resort time

It's the perfect time to think about a winter break isn't it? Snowstorms and cold weather are part of my world right now, but so is the resort issue which is in progress.

Last year's resort issue was great and we're hoping you'll like this year's issue even more which should be online next month. To not miss it follow Think magazine on Facebook and Twitter.

Water supply

It's something many of us take for granted, we turn on the tap and we get parasite free, water. Today I was doing my laundry and again I didn't have to wonder if I'll get water, I knew I would or if I didn't for some technical reason, I knew I could make a phone call to remedy the problem.
Yet still in the 21st century there are countries like Rwanda where the lack of clean water in some areas is still a problem. Charity Water uses 100% of monies donated towards sustainable water options therefore decreasing the spread of diseases which affect children more than adults. This is one of the charities Think magazine may consider getting involved with, we will post others in the future and you can help us choose.

Toronto's Green Grocers

I spend a lot of time in St. Lawrence Market for a variety of reasons, I like to buy everything fresh and downstairs has probably one of the best Italian sandwich  places next to a caviar bar. I used to have this Friday ritual of going down to the market and spending hours sampling new things, buying fresh produce and sitting outside people watching.

Now it looks like I'll have even better reasons to visit as the historical St. Lawrence Market is about to receive a sustainable makeover. The architectural firms of Adamson Associates Architects and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners firm won the opportunity to design the new St. Lawrence North Market.

Vegan Luxury

Gunas is a newcomer to the accessories market, who are aiming to make a dent in the eco luxury category
with their first collection for men and women. A 100% vegan and resistant to all weather conditions, the bags are Made in the USA with a portion of the revenue going to the Earth Matters Foundation.

Created by designer Sugandh who fused her cultural background with her love for architecture and travel and a little bit of influence from nature, the bags are made with the highest of details by designing all the hardware in-house.. They believe in using no animal products and prefer to use a sustainable plant based material such as eu-Polymer.

We're loving this collection for the richness, colours and textural choices. Think magazine will be following this company closely with full backing support.

Olympic eatery

Solely comprised of Scaffolding materials and reclaimed wood the new rooftop restaurant overlooking Olympic Park is set to open 16th June, 2010 in the midst of a construction site years ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

Studio East Dining is a collaboration between award winning architectural firm Carmody Groarke and East End bistro Bistrotheque. It is set to be the place to view the Olympics and beautiful vistas of London stretching all the way to Canary Wharf. When I went to the site it appeared to state this is a pop up restaurant for 3wks but I'd confirm with the restaurant.

Think magazine follow's up with Hetty Rose

We caught up with cobbler Hetty Rose to find what`s been happening in her world and she gave us lots of exciting information to report. So far, Hetty participated in a Nokia video for their Satellite Navigation component.
She also collaborated with photographer Steven Jones to create a pinhole shoe camera made from a box, a beer can, a radiator key and kimono fabric. The exhibition is currently being hosted by Liberty`s Here are some images from the shoot.

Hetty was featured in issue 002 with a rather beautiful shoe collection made from vintage kimonos she picked up in Japan. She is working on a ready-to-wear collection and for those who are interested in the craft of shoe making Hetty posted a how to video on her site near the bottom.

R4Fashion

Think magazine will be reporting on a fashion event called R4Fashion started by the University of Waterloo's Sustainable Technology Educational Project.

The evening will not only have a fashion show but it will be a platform to educate and bring other socially conscious beings together under one roof. Please come out and support this event, even if you're just curious you won't be disappointed. Did I mention there's a reception with organic wine and beer.

Slow your roll

Think magazine's blog is officially out of hiatus, so here goes. I recently purchased a new laptop that I desperately needed for business and well as pleasure. Now I understand that laptops tend to last around 2hrs without tradional energy, and mine is no exception, but I felt 2hrs may not be enough time in some circumstances.

The Brunton solar roll flexible solar panel can be used for computers, cameras and mobile phones. It comes with a car and a multi linking cable which should allow you to power up any of your rechargable devices. On their site it did not list MP3 players but I would suggest sending an email to the company.

The solar roll is available in three different sizes varying in price. Works in low lighting and takes up very little room. Just think you'll never run out of energy...ever.

Collaborations I would like to see: HP, Sony, Nokia
