My landlord is an accomplished gardener and has encouraged me to ask her as many questions as possible. We have discussed what she grew on my deck when she lived here and what I can possibly grow on an east facing deck with an abundance of sunlight.<br />

I would like to concentrate on organic herbs, meaning using an <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/006.html">all natural</a> method. Sometimes I wonder what all the fuss is about growing organic when it simply means returning back to basics. Nevertheless I found great resources in the form of books to guide me on my growing journey. Between my landlord and some <a href="http://thinkmag.net/">basic reading </a> I am sure to yield a variety of herbs, vegetables and possibly some flowers this summer.Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-26160224732892678122011-02-17T11:29:00.000-08:002011-02-17T11:29:12.210-08:00Techno Thursday<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="283" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/F0ck2Qynjrc?rel=0" title="YouTube video player" width="450"></iframe>Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-87234674335909322972011-02-14T10:58:00.000-08:002011-02-14T16:00:44.466-08:00Love the planet today<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I learnt a lot about why Leah Singh Waldman looked to her Indian side of her heritage for inspiration when designing <a href="http://thinkmag.net/archive/004.html">home accessories</a>. It was very much a spiritual journey as it was a design one. The lamp you see below is made from buffalo bone an ancient and traditional craft found in India. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dJv04uJIIQbOTosoQ82vrnbGga0eblehxFUt9RcCrJXIHqwFI4-GW_qwKDvW6AmNHkojnyp1bfnkpi6dXYAGiPUVKw3WphrxrbckO6ab4TI2MLcK4HZ1OjFVBWgnDuKfyUOp6O_Lv10/s1600/Thinkcover_Page_08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1dJv04uJIIQbOTosoQ82vrnbGga0eblehxFUt9RcCrJXIHqwFI4-GW_qwKDvW6AmNHkojnyp1bfnkpi6dXYAGiPUVKw3WphrxrbckO6ab4TI2MLcK4HZ1OjFVBWgnDuKfyUOp6O_Lv10/s400/Thinkcover_Page_08.jpg" width="282" /></a></div><br />
I wouldn't think to use buffalo bones for lamps nor would I expect it to look this beautiful. I don't know if this would appeal to everyone, but I love it all the same. I don't think it's a lamp you could ever grow tired of enjoying. We're working on cleaning it up, and looking at how it can be made more friendlier for 2011. The idea of constantly changing and <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/004.html">growing the magazine</a> has always been an attractive feature so bring on the change.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yk2sbWvMpF_KnO1A_QbcCmSI4LnlUeSkmUlbOb0aZvw3gKZQMpQodqBP_8ZWxf2FaP-4n8OcXLECpEgZmJQA26t9MZMKSzS4Ugf2ptSBxXfv5CYE4x0kSDBRTHV9soWkb-PgkabWJTM/s1600/Thinkmagazinecover005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yk2sbWvMpF_KnO1A_QbcCmSI4LnlUeSkmUlbOb0aZvw3gKZQMpQodqBP_8ZWxf2FaP-4n8OcXLECpEgZmJQA26t9MZMKSzS4Ugf2ptSBxXfv5CYE4x0kSDBRTHV9soWkb-PgkabWJTM/s320/Thinkmagazinecover005.jpg" width="226" /></a></div><br />
There is also a new writer joining team Think for <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/003.html">the Resort issue</a> Daniel will contribute to the <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/006.html">wearable technology</a> section since Erich is on hiatus for this issue but Daniel will be writing fashion. So here we go with year two. We hope to do the same job if not better in the second year of this growing publication.</div>Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-31639059655742893342011-02-03T08:47:00.000-08:002011-02-03T08:47:01.310-08:00Handmade chocolatesThere isn't a Techno Thursday post today instead I'm doing my bit to sustain local business in my area by frequenting this new chocolate shop called <a href="http://www.thechocolateria.ca/">The Chocolateria</a> that opened last year. It's owned by a lawyer (who presumably burnt out and wanted to do something less stressful) who makes a variety of chocolate delights including chocolate dipped potato chips.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMG2j3dzQoBF8V7zd_uuvkWGHcK1vTR44J2xsiYYzNNEpR7r_0CTtY16G4LIisLM7OBca-T6o7puLSvPcIQel-PuGWHTV9bi6zV1oMlGnRNti5HStyeOkPDksLV-QJI0z-YKscgeM9HQU/s1600/chocolatier2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMG2j3dzQoBF8V7zd_uuvkWGHcK1vTR44J2xsiYYzNNEpR7r_0CTtY16G4LIisLM7OBca-T6o7puLSvPcIQel-PuGWHTV9bi6zV1oMlGnRNti5HStyeOkPDksLV-QJI0z-YKscgeM9HQU/s400/chocolatier2.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Now I'm not a fan of potato chips but I did try a sample and surprisingly they were really delicious. When we last visited we had spiced hot chocolate and a huge cookie filled with loads of gorgeous chocolate chunks topped with chocolate drizzles, delish.<br />

A DIY cassette wallet that you design and construct yourself. Now completely obsolete <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/005.html">anyone wishing to reuse</a> their secret supply of old cassettes can do so with this kit. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I don't know if I'd carry this myself but it would be great for kids or someone who is in the music industry or a lover of music.Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-42649324273048187032011-01-21T10:07:00.000-08:002011-01-21T10:07:44.539-08:00Guess what these chairs are made from?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I"m hoping Toronto based designers Ryan Allen, Samreet Bal, and Andrea Hardcastle are able to go into production with the <a href="http://www.designer-at-large.ca/rebound.html">rebound chair</a> because I think they would sell quite well. Made out of <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/004.html">reclaimed</a> inner tubes, the chair only weighs about 15lbs but can seat a person of any stature quite comfortably.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

It covers illuminating fabrics, embedding fibres and fluid based fabrics. It's a comprehensive guide for someone who is interested in entering this growing field.<br />

Although I am still learning about wearable technology I can see numerous reasons for why it will become part of mainstream from health and safety to protecting oneself from the elements. Today on the news a scientist spoke of how the Earth is warming up. It made me think of what I might where in various climates in the future.Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-50199818071381441622011-01-19T08:15:00.000-08:002011-01-19T08:15:46.779-08:00Vancouver becoming the eco capital of Canada<object height="272" width="440"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5R_zgAsTf0c?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5R_zgAsTf0c?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="440" height="272"></embed></object>Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-71679964518399704862011-01-17T10:02:00.000-08:002011-01-17T10:02:01.471-08:00Choosing the next coverWe are simultaneously working on a site update,<a href="http://thinkmag.net/archive/003.html"> the resort issue </a>and a charity event coming soon. I had been sent samples of the Eco-i-Lite months ago and forgot all about them until just before the holidays when I decided to plug them in. They're easy enough to use just plug in the charger and the light sits in a cradle. <div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6ktdNBIkEgBEkF280nxGg62inApbcvNq40jdamSPOIBdlux4Hou-zcXI5CIXsWEezjkBeUJPIg_D46AwI7DQAoDanoLXpnPb8hW5ckSgvmmoKLPdh9d5UTb1ZDr36ofx2d2lbuKaGSj0/s1600/Midi+Eco-i-Lite.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6ktdNBIkEgBEkF280nxGg62inApbcvNq40jdamSPOIBdlux4Hou-zcXI5CIXsWEezjkBeUJPIg_D46AwI7DQAoDanoLXpnPb8hW5ckSgvmmoKLPdh9d5UTb1ZDr36ofx2d2lbuKaGSj0/s320/Midi+Eco-i-Lite.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div>Needless to say I lost power during the holidays on one of the coldest days and I didn't realise it until I saw the top portion of the lite shining brightly. That was during the day but I also tried it out at night and it worked very well. The bottom of the torch acts as a dimly lit night lite, but when you take it out of the charger the top part give off that great white light that's extremely bright but easy on the eyes. Another plus the plastics used are 100% <a href="http://www.thinkmag.net/archive/004.html">recycled</a>.</div>Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02998005261715645534noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453939841763751835.post-9382380502111502182011-01-06T12:08:00.000-08:002011-01-06T12:08:09.355-08:00Techno Thursday part II<iframe frameborder="0" height="225" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/17873025" width="400"></iframe><br />
